At the Therapeutic Recreation Group, we are driven by a profound mission: to heal the hearts and minds of our nation’s heroes. Founded by veterans for veterans, our organization is dedicated to providing a safe haven where those who have served can find solace, camaraderie, and healing through the power of nature and community.
Our journey began with a deep understanding of the challenges faced by veterans and first responders. The statistics are stark: every day, 22 veterans succumb to the invisible wounds of war. This reality is personal for us, as it is for many families who have lost loved ones to the silent battle of mental health. Our co-founder, Robbie Horne, knows this pain intimately, having lost his brother, a fellow Marine veteran, to suicide in 2012.
We believe that every veteran deserves a chance to heal and find peace. Through therapeutic recreation, we offer a holistic approach to mental health, combining outdoor activities like hunting, hiking, and fishing with peer support and community building. Our events are more than just outings; they are lifelines that connect veterans with others who understand their journey.
Despite our modest beginnings, we have already made a tangible difference in the lives of over 100 veterans and first responders. Our events have provided a platform for healing, connection, and growth, helping individuals find purpose and belonging again. However, we know that there are countless more who need our support.
